Vancouver Boutique

I think the term “Boutique Hotel” has different meanings to different people. To me, it generally means a higher end, lifestyle and design driven property, that is NOT part of chain, and does not have more than 100 rooms. They often cater to a younger crowd, but not always. They offer something special, something different than the average hotel experience. Having said that, some boutique hotels may break one or more of those rules, but lately it has become such a standard term that every hotel likes to use in order to be seen as current, or hip. Look up boutique hotels on Google and surely almost every hotel will show up.

These hotels (and there should be more!) are Vancouver’s version of what I consider good, true, boutique hotels.

The Opus Hotel

The Opus Hotel was perhaps one of Vancouver’s first true boutique hotels. Set in trendy Yaletown, the interiors are modern and edgy. Guests are offered a choice of colour schemes, and the unique bathroom on the windows setup plays with the idea of voyeurism. Also a great spot for celebrity sightings.

The Listel

The Listel Hotel on Robson Street is a hotel that sets itself up as being unique in that it focuses on art and sculpture. Every room has original, local art. And their front desk had individual reception pods way before it became popular.

Hotel Le Soleil

Hotel Le Soleil in downtown Vancouver is a boutique hotel in that it is a stand alone hotel not part of a chain. However it differs in that it is not designed in a trendy or modern way. Quality traditional furnishings and décor make it stand out.

Moda Hotel

The Moda Hotel is also in Yaletown, and it caters to a more budget conscious, younger crowd with simple, but adequate rooms.

The Loden Hotel

The Loden will be Vancouver’s next boutique hotel when it opens later this year. While it is part of a larger network of Kor Hotel Group, they only operate boutique hotels which are unique and all very different.
