My very talented blogging friends Ian Wrightson and Steven Stewart over at Phorm Design have graciously let me share photos of their recently completed renovation work at the Port Office Hotel in Brisbane. Working in collaboration with Blueprint Architects, they transformed the restaurant and bar into a dramatic, elegant, and modern gathering place.
Fix Restaurant itself is a calm, and fairly monochromatic space, which uses rich browns in leather upholstery and wood work, set off by touches of crisp white, and gold as accents. Curved banquettes provide rhythm and interest.
In the Liber Lounge, the design gets a little livelier with splashes of bluey-green patterned fabrics in pillows and accent chairs, which really make the space unique. Tufting and subtle art deco references pay homage to the hotel’s history. The gold screen work is also detailed exquisitely, and provides a dramatic backdrop in various areas. Light fixtures are modern, and placed perfectly. And how fun are the gold face stools?
The balance of masculine and feminine, colour and neutrality, old and new, and right balance and restraint in use of pattern, all make this space come together beautifully.
