Floating Hotel

I’ve always been fascinated with science fiction and fantasy and what future technologies can create. One of my favorite movies “The Fifth Element” (1997) had a large floating spaceship hotel called Fhloston’s Paradise. I always thought it would be cool to vacation on a cruise ship type vessel, but above the air, or in space.

This prototype for “Manned Cloud” luxury hotel (a blimp in reality) by French designer Massaud is set to become reality in 2009. It’s almost hard to tell which one is fantasy and which one will actually become reality.




The whale shaped, light weight helium structure holds up to 40 people and 15 crew members, and glides above the earth at a speed of 170 km / hour, without stopping for 3 or 4 days. The trip routes are expected be from Paris to Rome, and then on to Madascar. This surely is an interesting idea in taking the luxury hotel travel experience to “new heights”.
