Paris' skyline is the next target of Swiss architect's Herzog & De Meuron, creators of the now infamous "Bird's Nest Stadium" recently featured at the Beijing Olympics.

The building would be the first skyscraper to be built in Paris in over 30 years, due to a height restriction rule enforced in the 70's to keep Paris' quaint, historic skyline in tact. Ie. to keep the Eiffel Tower as the main focal point of the city and not have anything competing for its attention.

This new squished pyramid shaped building designed by
Herzog & De
Meuron is on the SW outskirts of the city. It is supposed to be run on wind and solar power, and will be environmentally respective (Ecologically that is). At 50 stories high, it will be a mixed use development with both office space and a hotel with restaurant and amenity components typical of hotels.

I'm not sure a pyramid shooting into the sky in the middle of nowhere is the most appropriate way to re-introduce skyscrapers into the French landscape, although you can't argue that it isn't interesting, and it would definately catch your eye. The Egyptians did it very successfully thousands of years ago!
